How Many Sessions of Juvederm are Recommended?

Juvederm is a form of cosmetic esthetic treatment that is referred to as a filler. This is because it is used to restore volume to areas of the face that may have lost it as part of the natural aging process. By adding volume to these areas, it also stretches the skin so that it is smoother, tighter, and more youthful in appearance. Juvéderm can also be used as a lip filler, creating fullness and softness in lips that were previously thin and small.

How does Juvederm work?

The main ingredient in Juvederm is hyaluronic acid, also known as HA. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that is found in our bodies in abundance when we are younger, attracting moisture to it which boosts the hydration on the surface of the skin, keeping it looking plump, healthy, and glowing. However, as we get older our production of HA slows. This causes the skin to become drier, thinner, and much duller in appearance and making us look older – sometimes more so than we really are.

The way that Juvederm works are very simple. By reintroducing hyaluronic acid to the skin, it works as a magnet for moisture, enabling your skin to retain as much water as possible. In fact, a single gram of hyaluronic acid is capable of retaining as much as six liters of water – yes really! Of course, it doesn’t actually do that but instead self-regulates so that your skin has enough moisture to appear as healthy as possible, without drowning in it.

The Effects of Juvederm

Patients who chose Juvederm fillers can experience a range of positive effects including, but not limited to:

  • Restored volume in areas that were previously hollow

  • Fine lines and wrinkles are filled so that they are no longer as noticeable or completely disappear

  • The face appears fuller, which in turn makes it look more youthful

  • Skin is hydrated and therefore more radiant

  • Less skin dryness

  • The stretching of skin also helps to reduce scarring, such as that which occurs after experiencing significant episodes of acne

How is Juvederm Performed?

Juvederm is an injectable product, which as its name suggests, means that it is administered via injection into the areas of your face where you and your surgeon have agreed. These are usually located in the lower part of the face, such as around the nose, chin, and jawline. A very thin, fine needle is used which means that you shouldn’t experience any discomfort, but you may be able to have some topical anesthetic if you would like it. The entire process is very short and can be carried out in a lunch break. There’s also no downtime, and you can get back to enjoying your day immediately afterward.

How Many Sessions of Juvederm are Recommended?

Patients usually need between one and two syringes of Juvéderm, but exactly how many will depend on your individual circumstances and your cosmetic surgeon will be able to give you more specific advice. However, these will typically be performed in a single session. You will then need to wait between two and three weeks to see the effects of your treatment.

Juvederm results are only temporary, lasting an average of six months before further treatment will be required. Many patients schedule Juvederm treatments twice each year in order to achieve and sustain their more youthful appearance.
